The Malling Holmesdale Federation was formed between Holmesdale
Technology College and The Malling School in February 2007. Since
that point, students have benefited significantly from increased funding
and better access to specialised equipment and highly trained staff.
In fact, so much so that in 2008, the number of students achieving at
least 5 GCSEs at grades A to C, including Maths and English, doubled at
The Malling School and increased by a third at Holmesdale.

Ian Hobson, executive principal of the Federation, says: “These great
results have been greatly helped by the Federation, which improves our
ability to access to resources outside the means of most schools.
This isn’t just because we are able to share them between the two
schools but because we are attracting additional funding as well.
“What this means to a parent and his or her child is that they will have
access to the very latest technology and equipment while at school.
Not only this, but their teachers will be using the latest techniques as
a result of being able share best practice and access the latest
training. This can only continue to be of significant benefit.”
The Federation has a single board of
Governors for both schools, chaired by Richard Sams MBE.
The Governors have ensured that all year 7 students at both schools
,
which they can use with the schools’ wireless internet facilities.
Cutting-edge teaching technology includes interactive whiteboards and
projectors, and use of video and all new ICT technology is encouraged.
Both schools have also been positioned at the centre of their
communities and actively participate in community activities; as part of
this the Governors are actively seeking Trust Status, involving a
variety of businesses, Councils, and community groups.
The Federation ensures the full curriculum is taught, while allowing
students to pursue particular interests through the individual
specialists
at
the two schools. For more information about the individual schools,
